Ruskins video review, converse first cut.

Converse First Cut Exclusive - The Ruskins / Old Isleworth from Converse Music on Vimeo.

The video kicks off with a country sound fast and energetic mirroring the youthful character we first see. Then we're presented with flashes of rebellious acts like smashing of a car, and a dangerous dog perhaps trying to represent the band as rebellious and cool which contrasts to their generic country riff. Then a wondering thought strikes us that perhaps the boys in the video are the band members and the music is trying to be ironic until the video cross cuts to the band. We see them in average 'indie kid' checked shirts, and polos completely the opposite of the characters in thier video.

Although filled with a sense of disapointment that another band with te fateful combo of annoying music and average image were among us I watched on. Because although this kind of video (a band trying to be something they're not) I was intreuged to the story and watched on. I commend the band for making their video funny and youthful because in parts it was enjoyable to see. The problem is with a band like this is they use the story the mask who they are because clearly this band are private school tossers putting on an accent to fit his perception of cool.

In the music business these days some bands seem to play what they think will sell and not what is good music. They seem to think that so long as it's catchy, it doesn't matter if it nags the listener rather than excites them like the boy in the video. However, if it was just down to the video and not the music I would say it's a good effort.
