Nassau - Bahamas Day 3: The working

Friday

Getting down to the studio earlier than the day before but still a tad later than we planned (because people on this island are so laid back) the instrumental recording proceeded and very smoothly. They managed to get through it quickly and finish off 4 songs. The four songs sound really energy packed and live so it really gets you going and makes me happy when I listen to it.

So finally we moved onto vocals! But Franklins first so the rest of the band sat in the mixing room on the cushy sofas and watched Franklin lay down his vocals. Now what's weird is we're used to doing vocals in a tiny room but with this to fit to the track Franky just stood with a mic and headphones and sang. It sounded great though and Terry experimented with reverb or no reverb.

Unfortunately it was getting late so we're saving my vocals for tommorow Saturday the day Terry and I like to call 'Milly Day'. At the end of the session Henry put down some piano on 'Effective First' which sounded pretty and not like Shiva, maybe the subtle lovelyness will suprise, they sound very similar to the guitar harmonics. I can't wait to sing my part and hear Henry sing too and then hear the songs done! That's a little while off though.

During the day because I didn't want to hang around whilst being in such a beautiful place Gloria & I got the bus downtown. When we were waiting for the bus these people in a fruit selling stall started screaming at eachother so fast in such weird accents you couldn't understand a thing they were saying. Then some guy with dreadlocks bundled up into his hat started offering us a ride into town, people of this island are either really friendly or really dodgy, but I expect a bit of both. So we finally got onto the bus where they play techo - reggae and talk about chicken. And then we arrived downtown at the Straw Market where literally every stall sold the same thing: Very fake designer bags, wooden flutes, straw bags with things like Dora the Explorer sewn on and T shirts saying things like 'Someone who loves me got me this Tshirt fromt the Bahamas'. If I had a stall I would have something that stood out a little bit because none of them were making sales. So Gloria and I wandered around by the sea for a bit, got some McDonalds and went home where the bus driver drove all the way with the door wide open. And I went for a swim in the sea with Alex, where I got scared that something was going to attack me in the water.

Everything is still so surreal here I reckon by the time it sinks in I'll be off on a plane back to London. Well back to Atlanta, hang around at the airport for three hours, then get on a plane to London and play Inflight poker for a while, then arrive in a daze and probably have to go to school. Still, I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
